1. General information
Established under the Agreement between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of France, signed on November 12, 2009, and replaced by the Agreement signed on November 2, 2018, the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH), also called Vietnam France University, was founded under Decision No. 2067/QĐ-TTg dated December 9, 2009 by the Prime Minister of Vietnam.
USTH is the sixth university in Vietnam to achieve international accreditation standards for educational institutions by the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education of France (HCERES), bringing the total number of Vietnamese universities recognized by foreign accreditation organizations to 17.

2. Training Programs
2.1. Regular programs at USTH
USTH offers undergraduate programs in science and technology following the European Bologna Process. The standard duration of a Bachelor’s degree program is 3 years (equivalent to 180 ECTS), with all courses taught in English. For the Maintenance Engineering B1/B2 orientation (Aeronautical Engineering), the duration is 4 years, including 10 months of study and practical training at VAECO, Vietnam Airlines. Graduates are awarded a Bachelor’s degree.
The duration of training for the Pharmacy program is 5 years, with 70% of the courses taught in English and 30% in Vietnamese. Graduates are awarded a Bachelor in Pharmacy.
For candidates who meet the admission requirements but do not meet the English entry requirements, the study program includes an additional year focused on enhancing English skills (not applicable to the Bachelor’s program in Pharmacy and double degree programs).

2.2. Double degree programs
Since 2022, USTH has cooperated with our partners in France to deploy double-degree programs. Students admitted to the double degree programs will spend their first two years at USTH and have a chance to study their third year in a French institution. Upon graduation, students will be granted two Bachelor’s degrees, one by the USTH and one by a French institution.

3. Scope of admission
The University of Science and Technology of Hanoi conducts admissions for both domestic and international candidates.
4. Admissions methods and criteria
4.1. For students who graduated from high schools following the educational program of the MOET
a.1) Admissions method 1 (AM1): Admission based on USTH Competency assessment examination results
– Applicable to candidates who participate in the competency assessment examination organized by the USTH
– Eligibility:
- Candidates who have achieved an overall academic performance rated Good or higher in grades 11 and 12.
- The competency assessment examination organized by the USTH includes: a knowledge test (covering a combination of three subjects relevant to the chosen program) and an admissions interview.
a.2) Admissions method 2 (AM2): Admission based on academic performance combined with interview results:
2.1. Admission based on international certificates in combination with interview results
– Applicable to candidates who will graduate from high school in 2026
– Eligibility:
- Candidates who hold at least one of the following international standardized test certificates: an SAT score of 1100/1600 or above, or an ACT score of 24/36 or above, issued within the two (02) years preceding the application submission date.
- Candidates must have attained an overall academic performance classified as Very Good/Excellence in both Grades 11 and 12.
2.2. Admission based on high school academic performance in combination with interview results
– Applicable to candidates who will graduate from high school in 2026
– Eligibility:
- Candidates who have achieved an average grade point (GPA) of at least 8.30/10 in three (03) out of the following six (06) subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, and English, in both Grades 11 and 12, corresponding to one of the admissions subject combinations of the training program.
- Candidates must have attained an overall academic performance classified as Very Good/Excellence in both Grades 11 and 12
- Formula for Calculating the Average score:

a.3) Admissions method 3 (AM3): Direct admission according to the USTH Admissions Information
– Applicable to candidates who will graduate from high school in 2026
– Eligibility: Candidates are eligible for directadmission according to the Admissions Policy of the USTH and meet at least one (01) of the following conditions within the last three years:
- Candidates win prizes in examinations of selecting national, provincial gifted students (or equivalent): first, second, third prizes or encouragement in natural-science subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics and Geography;
- Candidates win first, second, or third prizes (projects related to natural sciences) in national, regional, and international science and engineering contests (approved by the Admissions Committee);
- Candidates participate in the international Olympic team selection exam; candidates are official members of the national team participating in the international contest on subjects of natural sciences, international science and engineering contest teams (projects related to natural sciences).
*Remarks:
- Direct admission for the Aeronautical Engineering program is only applied to students with prizes in Mathematics, Physics and Informatics;
- Direct admission for the Pharmacy program is only applied to students with prizes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology;
- Geography is only applied for candidates of the Space Science and Satellite Technology program.
a.4) Admissions method 4 (AM4): Admission based on the high school graduation exam results
– Applicable to candidates who participated in the High School Graduation Examination in 2026
– Eligibility: Candidates who participated in the High School Graduation Examination in 2026 with subject combinations appropriate to the training programs, as specified in the USTH’s Admission Information..
4.2. For students who graduated from high schools following the international programs examination results
b.1) Admissions method 1 (AM1): Admission based on USTH Competency assessment examination results
– Applicable to candidates who have graduated from high school, and who participate in the competency assessment examination organized by the USTH
– Eligibility: The candidate’s graduation certificate or transcript must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Achievement of an average Percentage Uniform Mark (PUM) of at least 65%, calculated from three (03) subjects belonging to one of the prescribed admissions subject combinations of the selected training program, which is considered equivalent to grade C under the GCE A-Level assessment system; or
- Achievement of an average score calculated from three (03) subjects corresponding to one of the admissions subject combinations of the training program, with a minimum score of 4 (on a 7-point grading scale) for candidates following the IB – International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme; or
- Contact the Department of Admissions and Communications for consultation regarding other programs.
The USTH competency assessment examination includes the following components: registration through the USTH online admissions system, completion of a knowledge test (a combination of three subjects relevant to the applied major), and participation in an online interview.
b.2) Admission method 2 (AM2): Admission based on academic performance combined with interview results (2.2 Admission based on high school academic performance in combination with interview results)
– Applicable to candidates who will graduate from high school in 2026
– Eligibility: Candidates must meet at least one (01) of the following conditions:
- GCE A-Level (or equivalent): Achievement of an average Percentage Uniform Mark (PUM) of at least 80%, calculated from three (03) subjects belonging to one of the prescribed admission subject combinations of the applied training program, which is considered equivalent to grade A under the GCE A-Level assessment system; or
- International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program: Achievement of an average score of at least 6 (on a 7-point scale), calculated from three subjects in accordance with the prescribed subject combinations for the applied training program; or
- International examinations (SAT/ACT): Possession of at least one of the valid following certificates: SAT: minimum score of 1100/1600, or ACT: minimum score of 24/36, obtained within two (02) years before the application submission date, together with an overall academic performance classification of Very Good/Excellence in Grades 11 and 12, or its equivalent.
*Remarks:
a) Double degree programs: Candidates must hold an IELTS certificate with a minimum overall score of 6.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of at least 60.
Admission is conducted exclusively through AM1, based on the results of the USTH Competency Assessment Examination.
b) Pharmacy program (applicable to all admission methods): Candidates must hold an IELTS certificate with a minimum score of 5.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of at least 35.
– For AM1, AM2, candidates must meet one of the following academic requirements: a full-year Grade 12 academic performance classified as Excellent/Very Good (GPA ranking from Excellent or above) or a high school evaluation score of at least 8.0.
– For AM4, candidates must meet the requirements of the quality assurance threshold for the health sector in the year of graduation stipulated by the MOET.
c) For applicants to the Medical Science and Technology programs, the requirement is a full-year Grade 12 academic performance classified as Good (GPA ranking from Good or above) or a high school evaluation score of at least 6.5.
d) For Semiconductor and IC Technology: must meet the minimum admission quality assurance threshold in accordance with Decision No. 1314/QĐ-BGDĐT dated May 13, 2025 and Decision No. 2101/QĐ-BGDĐT dated July 22, 2025 issued by MOET on the National Standards for Undergraduate and Master’s Training Programs in Semiconductor Microelectronics.
e) Aeronautical Engineering: Admission is conducted only through AM1, AM2, and AM3
f) Foreign applicants: Foreign candidates must demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to ensure effective academic participation at USTH, as follows:
– For the regular programs: IELTS score of at least 5.0, or other equivalent certificates. Candidates to the Pharmacy program must also meet the Vietnamese language proficiency requirements, in accordance with the current regulations by the MOET.
– For the double degree programs: IELTS score of at least 6.0, or other equivalent
g) Subject combinations for admission: The subject combination applicable to each training program is specified in Annex 1 – Admissions Announcement.
h) Valid foreign language certificates: Foreign language certificates recognized by the MOET for university admission and their equivalent scores at the USTH score system (AM1 and AM4) are provided in Annex 2 – Admissions Announcement.
i) Candidates should refer to the USTH Competency Assessment Exam guidelines published on the USTH website.
j) All candidates are required to register their aspirations online on the General Supporting System for admission of the MOET within the prescribed timeframe.
If the number of qualified candidates exceeds the enrollment quota of a training program, admission results will be determined based on the order of candidates’ aspirations registered in the MOET centralized admissions system.

– Candidates applying through AM1, AM2 and AM3 must submit their applications online via the website: https://apply.usth.edu.vn
– Candidates applying through AM4 must submit their program aspirations via the Ministry of Education and Training’s common admissions support system: https://thisinh.thitotnghiepthpt.edu.vn

Remarks:
(1) Passport is only eligible for foreign candidates.
(2) For candidates submitting applications in wave 1 and wave 2 are required to update their full grade 12 academic results on the USTH online admissions system after completing the program. Concerning admissions method 2, the admissions results will only be recognized if their high school academic results meet the threshold specified by the USTH.
If the grading system is different from the 0-10 scale applied in Vietnam, a document by competent authorities explaining the applied grading system is required.
After enrollment, matriculated candidates will take an English test which decides their suitable placement. Students who have an IELTS certificate that achieved a minimum score of 5.0 or a TOEFL iBT certificate with a minimum score of 35 will be exempted from the English test and eligible to study for a 3-year program.
6. Admissions schedule

- The admissions schedule may be changed and will be updated on the website of USTH. Results of direct admission, results of knowledge tests, and interviews will be informed to the candidates via email and the USTH online admissions system.
- Wave 3 will be adapted to the MOET’s schedule.
- Admission based on the high school graduation exam results: align with the MOET’s schedule.

Remark: The application fee is a mandatory fee when applying and is non-refundable in all cases.
Tentative tuition fee:

*For common modules, tuition fee under the double degree program shall be calculated based on the credit rates applicable to the regular program. All specific modules shall be charged in accordance with the tuition fee rate of the double degree program.
